MGT 670 BUSINESS INTERNSHIP - GRADUATE STUDENTSThe business internship course (MGT 670) can replace the MGT690 "Special Topics" class for MBA General Management students. Students must have completed a minimum of 20 hours in the MBA program with a minimum GPA of 3.0. The process to enroll in the course is as follows:
1) The student completes the hard copy application form (LEFT) and submits a work plan to the faculty supervisor 2) The student collects all the required signatures and submits the paper to the registrar's office 3) The student completes the required graded elements (LEFT) and contact their faculty supervisor when completed 4) Upon completion of SRM670, the student will be awarded a grade by the faculty supervisor INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS - SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONSInternational Students have limitations based on visa requirements when engaging in paid or unpaid internships or jobs. Co-curricular practical training (CPT) and Optional Practical Training (OPT) are two options for international students. Students who qualify for CPT experience would enroll in MGT670 for academic credit. Access the information below or contact the International Office in Seitz Hall. E- Port Folio Design: The creative and purposeful design of your e-portfolio web pages will be evaluated. Your e-portfolio should be a visual representation of the internship experience and your professional career preparation. The e-portfolio design should be of the quality to share with potential employers.
Organizational Profile: The organizational profile (see sample tab) should also include information about your supervisor.
Work Plan: The work plan includes information you include with the application before you begin the internship experience. Click on the "About Me" page to review the information included in the work plan.
Resume: Your resume should include the internship experience. Ideally, it is to be posted under your "About Me" page.
Daily Log: You need to document the number of hours you worked/interned on a daily basis. The excel template is included as a file above. Simply record the basic task for the day and the number of hours. Each month you should total your hours.
Journal: Include one post for every 10 hours (20 minimum). Your first post should include an introduction and should coincide with the first week you begin. Review the information under the Journal tab for ideas of what to include in each entry. You should write several paragraphs to summarize the learning and activities for each ten hours. Adding photos is a means to creatively add interest to the page. You will be evaluated according to content, frequency of posts, depth of expression, and writing.
Industry Paper: You are to submit a 15-page double space or 8 page single space (with headers) paper that relates to the industry or company in which you are interning. You may not use a paper submitted for another class. You should work with your faculty supervisor early in the process to identify a topic. The paper is to include a minimum of four different resources that are cited within the text of the paper using APA format. At least two of the citation should be from sources other than the internet. You should include a reference page. Sample topics:
1) Human Resource Management in mid-size Businesses;
2) Social Media and e-Commerce at XYZ Company;
3) The Making of a Manager at XYZ Company;
4) Global Comparisons of Business Practices for Retail Jewelry Stores
Self-Reflection: The self-reflection should be a one-page single space summary that ties the internship experience with what you have learned in the MBA Program and evaluates your performance in addition to the work-site supervisor's performance. You should include a statement reflecting your overall satisfaction with the experience and whether it will assist in your future career.
Supervisor Evaluation: The supervisor evaluation is to be submitted by the work-site supervisor. A link for the online version will be included soon.
